Bottomless started because of a simple yet common problem: our founders love coffee but kept forgetting to buy more from their favorite roasters, forcing them to settle for generic supermarket coffee while waiting for their next shipment.
We’ve all been there - waddling groggily into the kitchen, already angered by the early hour, only to have your dreams of coffee crushed by an empty bag. 😣
Too Much of a Good Thing
Or on the flip side, they were getting too much of their favorite products. They loved Soylent and had a monthly subscription but couldn’t drink enough by the next shipment.
They kept receiving new packages in the mail and eventually had to throw out several expired bottles.
They knew there had to be a better way.
The Solution
This led to the design of our original scale, which was created to ensure they would never run out of their favorite products again.
Bottomless started as a reordering solution for coffee only. It was the perfect product to test the tech because of its popularity, varying usage, and packaging.
As we expanded beyond coffee to include pet food, supplements, sodas, and more, we developed a range of scales and innovative products like smart containers, trays, and wine racks to meet these diverse needs.

More Information About Our Device
Our devices learn your habits! They are designed to learn from your usage patterns to predict when you’ll need a refill. I love how my scale feels like a personal shopper, always knowing what I need.
Its battery lasts about 1.5 years, so you might not need the charger often— be sure to store it somewhere safe, like a random junk drawer. 😏
One of my favorite features is that you can place any container on the scale. The setup guide includes instructions on this, allowing for endless creativity, like the stories I will share below!
Our Muse
Our customers inspire us to continue to create. They come up with great ideas that have us kicking ourselves for not thinking of them sooner.
One of the reasons that I love our devices is that they become longtime friends in your kitchens! This allows you to get to know the devices as intimately as we do, and because of that, you come up with some creative ideas.
Smart Home for Cats
I knew I had to write this post when one of our customers reached out sharing his first addition to his “smart home for cats.” Our whole team was thrilled to see our scale being used so creatively!
They used our scale to hack their own smart pet feeder with access control. Our smart scale is under the automatic feeder here:
Who knows! Maybe we’ll have to build a smart feeder of our own pretty soon.
No Scale Too Small
This next one inspired us to create an entirely new product - a larger pet food scale. We finished development earlier this month, and this is where it all started.
We have a pet beta program that allows our customers to use our subscription with their favorite pet products. Evidently, our scale was not large enough for one of our customer’s dog’s appetite! They engineered a quick solution with a cookie sheet!

Beat Us to the Punch
Our team could not believe it when we received this next message. We were in the process of developing a somewhat secret smart container for large bags of pet food.
Then, our customer beat us to development when they sent us this photo!
Using a small (new) trash can, they created a smart container without waiting for us to release one.
This is what I meant when I said that customers get to know our devices as intimately as we do. They come up with solutions we’ve thought of and even some we haven’t.
Seeing these innovative solutions is one of my favorite parts of working at Bottomless.
